Artist Statement

I’m moved to create by the aesthetic minutiae in our everyday existence. While I often conceptually pull from the emotional and personal, it’s the small things that keep me motivated as an artist. The texture of a stone wall, the color of a blade of grass in the sunlight, the form of a faucet— it’s those everyday aesthetic experiences.

In my personal life, I am an avid hiker and traveler. I have hiked two routes of the Camino de Santiago, and visited art museums in London, Berlin, Paris, Madrid, and more. I recently backpacked the Colorado Trail from Denver to Durango and hope to someday hike Te Araroa in Aotearoa. Another dream is to someday visit the many art and architecture museums on the island of Naoshima in Japan. I highly value the presence travel brings, and the privilege of experiencing different perspectives and cultures. At its center, I find the meaning of travel to be similar to art education: a conduit for connection.
